It may be hard to believe– but shower doors are really a neglected part of the house. It’s safe to say that framed and frameless shower doors can last up until at least 20-30 years if maintained properly. That’s pretty long, don’t you think? It’s almost the same lifespan as a roof!
But it can get damaged if you’re not taking care of it, especially if your shower door is an older model. Since it has a metals, gaskets and seals— it’s a lot more prone to deterioration than say, a frameless modern shower door. The worst thing is, we don’t even notice that it’s happening right under our noses. But to be fair, it is pretty subtle.
To help you identify the signs you need to replace your shower door, we’re gonna give you a rundown. Check it out.
1. Rust and Corrosion
If you have metal frame incorporated in your shower door, then it probably wasn’t replaced recently. Moisture and mildew can get into it forming rust and corrosion. That’s pretty easy to spot, but hard to repair. Sometimes, harsh chemicals can even weaken the gasket and seal between the glass. It would be dangerous if the glass panels fall out, so make sure to inspect that as well.

2. Opening or Closing is Simple… or Not
If you sense that there’s a resisting force when opening or closing the shower doors, that could be a huge problem. Maybe it doesn’t close all the way like it used to. If it doesn’t function like it’s supposed to, then it’s probably due for replacement.
3. Leaks on Leaks
Be careful with this one. If the water gets outside your shower enclosure, then isn’t leak-proof anymore. The gaskets and seals aren’t working as well as they used to. Also, be mindful of your step, since with this one— slipping and falling is very possible. To ensure your safety, schedule a door replacement as soon as possible.
