Call us dramatic, but there is quite literally nothing worse than having to battle it out with a stubborn, sticky lock at the end of a long day. Imagine having to twist and turn (multiple times!), jiggling your key on the lock (with a hint of aggressiveness), and wondering what the heck went wrong. Don’t quit just, yet my friend. You probably wouldn’t even have to ‘residential door repair’ yourself out of this sticky situation!
So calm, down.
Take a big breath— and think. Diagnosing any problem beforehand and figuring how to work it out first saves your time and sanity.
If you’re a handy person, we suggest to do these steps first.
A Little TLC
Okay, visual inspection first. Dig out a flashlight if you must. Scope out everything.
Any gunk in there? We suggest you clean the dirt, and scrape out whatever could obstruct your lock.
But it doesn’t stop there, no no. We’re going to take it one step further and actually liberally coat the keyhole and key itself with a graphite-based lubricant. Work the key in and see if it opens smoothly.

Lock Mechanism
If that doesn’t cut it, there may be a mechanical issue. This is a bit of a tricky fix, but if you can handle it—- why not try it out, amirite?
Grab a screwdriver and loosen the screws securing the lock mechanism. Reason? They may not be aligned anymore. Gently realign them to their correct orientation and position. Tighten the screws back and voilà! Residential doors all around the world, fixed!
