Sometimes, there’s no avoiding a little mishap here and there. Especially since handicap door openers are nothing like traditional doors— they’re a little new to the market. Door owners probably won’t have much of an idea on how to deal with little issues.
So if you think that your handicap door opener is malfunctioning, then worry no further! It’s most probably nothing serious. Hopefully.
Here are some quick fixes you can use for your handicap door issues:
1. If it’s not working at all
Number one in the electronic rule book— check the power on/off/hold-open button. This might seem too simple, but you’d probably be surprised by how much this happens.
If this doesn’t work, try checking the buttons. There are two, one outside on the wall and one inside the door, connected by a wireless transmitter. When one out of two buttons doesn’t work, the problem might be from the transmitter or the button itself.
If you gauge that the transmitter is defective, then try checking its battery. Open up the switch by loosening screws. There’s no LED light that indicates battery, then replaces it.
Meanwhile, some dysfunctions can stem from water damage or popped fuses. We’ve all seen the handicap door opener mounted in broad daylight, but steps are ensured so that water can’t get in them. If you see any signs of water damage, then it’s best to call the professionals.

2. If the door won’t close all the way
If your handicap door won’t close all the way— it’s probably either one of these three. Internal clock spring isn’t wound up, mechanical obstructions, or gearbox spring issues. With an internal clock spring, it may be reattached. Obstructions may be bypassed and gearboxes can be replaced. But all of these can be a little more complicated than your average tinkering, so there’s always an option to hire your local professional.
